Dr. Christian (Chris) Wuthrich has been appointed as the new Dean of Students in the Division of Student Affairs, and will begin his new duties at Boise State University in early August.
Dr. Wuthrich brings to Boise State University over twenty years of experience in a Dean of Students’ office, most recently at Washington State University (WSU) where he served as Associate Dean of Students and Dean of Students. Prior to his work in the Dean of Students’ Office at WSU, Dr. Wuthrich also served as the Associate Director of Student Conduct. In his role as Dean of Students, he was responsible for overseeing the Department of Residence Life, Center for Fraternity and Sorority Life, Academic Integrity programs, as well as Student Standards and Accountability. He also led the Campus Climate Network and Student Care Team. Prior to arriving at WSU, Dr. Wuthrich held the positions of Director of Campus and Greek Life Programs and Alcohol and Drug Prevention Educator, both in the Dean of Students’ Office at the University of Idaho. He has been an active adjunct faculty member at Washington State University advising graduate students, teaching graduate courses in student development theory, higher education law, budget and finance, and issues in student affairs, as well as conducting research focused on student development and emergency management response.
Dr. Wuthrich has presented at numerous national and regional conferences on topics such as academic integrity, personal responsibility, and Greek advising. He currently serves as an editorial board member of the Journal of Student Affairs Research and Practice, and has been a peer reviewer for the Association for the Study of Higher Education (ASHE) and a program reviewer for the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA). Dr. Wuthrich earned a Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration at Washington State University. He holds a Master of Science and a Bachelor of Science both in Secondary Education from the University of Idaho.
Dr. Wuthrich is uniquely qualified to lead the newly created Dean of Students’ office towards the realization of its goal of providing a coordinated, student-centered office focused on student advocacy that will improve overall coordination, accessibility and delivery of key services to the campus community. His many years of experience will ensure that the Dean of Students’ office is well positioned to continue its commitment to offering programs and services that are consistent with Boise State’s mission to promote and enhance student success. “Throughout my career I have been committed to creating a holistic environment for student success. The Dean of Students position at Boise State University gives me the opportunity to bring together my student affairs experience and research agenda in a way that will uniquely contribute to the goals of the University. I am very excited to join the students, faculty and staff of Boise State as we begin the new academic year,” said Wuthrich.
The Dean of Students reports to the Vice President for Student Affairs and will provide strategic direction and leadership to the office that serves as a key link between students, parents, administration and academia. Dr. Wuthrich will lead a highly skilled and diverse professional staff that includes the Office of Student Rights & Responsibilities, Veterans Affairs, the Disability Resource Center and Student Media. The Dean will also coordinate the CARE (Campus Assessment, Resource and Education) Team and supervise the Title IX/504 coordinator functions for the university.
